First Baptist Church of Granite Shoals holding renewal week

DANIEL CLIFTON • PICAYUNE EDITOR

GRANITE SHOALS — The Rev. Randy Taylor of First Baptist Church of Granite Shoals loves Sunday services. But he also knows you sometimes have to change things up a bit to rekindle that fire for God’s grace.

That’s exactly what he and his church are doing Aug. 17-20, when they celebrate Grace Renewal Week.

“It’s just a chance to remind us of the grace that God gives us,” Taylor said. “Every now and then, we just need something different to wake us up to God’s love. It’s not that we don’t hear his work on Sunday. It’s just an opportunity to hear it in a different way and setting.”

David Crain, a gifted, entertaining evangelist from Grand Saline, is leading each of the programs, which are 11 a.m. Aug. 17 and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18-20.

“David Crain is an incredible speaker and musician,” Taylor said. “He mixes humor into his message, but it’s not just about being funny. He’ll have you rolling in the aisles to the point your side feels like it’s going to split, but a few minutes later, he’ll have you near tears.”

Crain is no stranger to the stage or the pulpit. He has recorded 10 albums. Major Christian artists such as Chris Tomlin, Michael Armstrong and the Continental Singers have recorded his songs.

“He’s played with Mercy Me and a lot of other groups and performers,” Taylor added.

Crain is also a dynamic worship leader.

Everybody is welcome to attend the church’s renewal week. Though the event takes place at Granite Shoals church, Taylor said he hoped people who didn’t typically attend services would come out to hear Crain’s message. He said an event such as Grace Renewal Week gives those people an opportunity to experience church in a more casual setting.

“It’s going to be really laid back,” the pastor said. “It’s not the time to put your suit and tie on. And people aren’t going to be standing there pointing at you when you walk through the door. It’s just going to be a fun week. Just come and experience it. David does a great job.

“Anybody who walks in is going to catch God,” Taylor added. “It doesn’t matter what denomination you are or even if you don’t go to church at all. This is just going to be a fun time.”

The church is located at 505 S. Phillip Ranch Road (just beyond the Granite Shoals water tower.) Child care will be provided. Go to davidcrain.com for more information on David Crain or call (830) 598-5214 for more information on Grace Renewal Week.
