LakeFest boat races set for Aug. 8-10; volunteers needed

MARBLE FALLS — The fastest show on water returns to Lake Marble Falls for the 23rd annual LakeFest Drag Boat Races on Aug. 8-10.

But before thousands can come to Lakeside Park to cheer on boats going more than 200 mph, another large group is needed: volunteers.

“Volunteers are coming along nicely,” said Julia Adams, events coordinator for the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce. “But we are desperately in need. I thank everybody for coming and calling us for volunteering.”

A few hundred volunteers are needed to put together each LakeFest event. Most needs for Friday, Aug. 8, and Saturday, Aug. 9, have been filled. However, many openings remain for Sunday, Aug.10.

In fact, many of those openings are for will-call and the Top Eliminator Club, which are air-conditioned.

Although the event doesn’t begin until Aug 8, Adams said boats begin arriving the Monday before on Aug. 4. Johnson Park closes to thru traffic Wednesday, Aug. 6, as boats and teams set up pit areas in the park.

Go to www.marblefallslakefest.com to purchase tickets or for more information. To volunteer, call (800) 759-8178 or the chamber at (830) 693-2815.
