HORSESHOE BAY — Marble Falls Middle School golfer Macy Fox earned her third tournament win at Horseshoe Bay Resort on July 23.
Fox was down by four strokes headed into the final round of the Slick Rock Junior Championship. But she shot a 70 in that round to win the girls 12-18 division with a two-day total of 146, edging runner-up Lauren Kim by a single stroke.
Fox said she didn’t do anything differently headed into the last round. She shot a 76 on the first day.
“Have fun and play,” she said. “I didn’t know what was happening. But I played my game and things worked out.”
Her goal, she said, is to remember to enjoy competing with the aim of playing well.
“Play the best you think you can play and then go do it,” she said.
Her other wins at Horseshoe Bay Resort include the Future Champions Golf Texas Championship and the Elite Mini Tour Championship.
“I play there every day,” she said. “It’s my home turf, and I feel comfortable.”
The golfer credits her coaches for the victories. They are Gary Parsons, the head golf professional at the Cap Rock Golf Facility at Horseshoe Bay Resort, and Bruce Cotton of Escondido Golf and Lake Club, who serves as her swing and putting coach.
“They were proud of me,” she said. “They knew I had it in me. They support me.”
Fox plays on the Texas Junior Golf Tour, so she earned four stars to help with her overall standing.
“To win stars, you have to win big tournaments,” Fox said.
Next up is the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C. Official rounds are July 31-Aug. 2. The tournament is for players ages 12 and under.
