BURNET — The Burnet and Llano high school baseball teams now know who they’ll be playing in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs.

The Bulldogs (13-11-3 overall, 6-4 district), who enter as District 8-3A’s third-place team, play Alvarado (14-5, 9-3), District 7-3A’s runner-up.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets (12-13 overall, 7-3 district), the District 8-3A’s runners-up, meet Venus (15-10, 8-4), District 7’s third-place squad.

Though each will play a best-of-three series, the good news for Burnet is it has home-field advantage.

The Bulldogs go to Alvarado, 1301 S. Parkway, on May 2 for a 7 p.m. first pitch to start the series. The series then moves to Bulldog Diamonds, 1000 The Green Mile, for Game 2 at 5:30 p.m. May 3. Game 3, if necessary, will be played 30 minutes after the second contest ends, also at Bulldog Diamonds.

Alvarado’s ace is senior Dylan Lemons, who signed to play for Hill College. He has an ERA of 0.89 with 71 strikeouts and 21 walks and is 7-0 this season.

Llano travels to Venus, 12 Bulldog Drive, on May 1 for a 7 p.m. contest. Game 2 is 7 p.m. May 2 at Llano’s home field near Llano Elementary School, 1600 Oatman St. in Llano. Game 3, if necessary, is 3 p.m. May 3 at Troy, 205 N. Waco Road in Troy.
