BURNET — After two consecutive years of finishing as the runner-up, the Llano High School boys golf team hoisted the team trophy as the District 8-3A champion April 7.
The Yellow Jackets shot a two-day total of 620. The Burnet 1 team was fourth with a total score of 673, while Burnet 2 shot a 759.
“This is the first district title in several years, seven or eight years,” Llano head coach Mike McIntosh said. “Using their experience of coming close the last few years I think got them over the hurdle this year.”
The Llano squad has five juniors, all of whom finished in the top 10 in the individual standings. They were led by Chance Craig, who shot a 147 and was crowned the individual district champion. The other juniors are Clayton Meyers, Tyler McDonough, Holden Simpson and Jordan Webb.
On the girls side, Burnet High School’s Lauren Beckwith qualified for the regional tournament by shooting a 160. As a team, the Lady Dawgs were third with a total score of 765, barely missing second place by a stroke.
Llano’s Alex Riley was honored for all-district for finishing in the top 15.
