MARBLE FALLS — The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team defeated Waco Texas Christian 64-45 on Jan. 21.
The victory keeps the Flames (8-7 overall, 3-1) in second place in District 4-2A of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
Flames head coach Randy Denton challenged his players before tipoff to give maximum effort on both sides of the court. The result was a 19-0 lead after the first period, which surprised the coach.
“We talk about attacking the defense,” he said. “We talk about how long we can go until we give up the first bucket.”
The Flames got into a little foul trouble in the second period. Still, they were able to keep playing the way they had been, which led to the win.
“Our players work hard,” Denton said. “We talk a lot of basketball IQ. We work hard. We really work hard on defense.”
The Flames team consists mostly of underclassmen. Players lead by example, Denton said, which means they work hard in practice and strive to give 100 percent each day. That encourages other players to do the same, he said.
