Burnet boys basketball loses two over holiday break

AUSTIN — The Burnet High School boys basketball team finished its Christmas break with back-to-back losses Jan. 3 and 6.
The Bulldogs (10-10) fell to Austin McCallum, 42-38, and Austin St. Andrew’s, 70-63.
Burnet trailed McCallum from the start: 12-7 after the first period and 27-18 at the half. But in the second half, the Bulldogs began to chip away at the deficit. By the fourth quarter, McCallum only led 34-28. Burnet was 4 of 8 from the foul line in the final minutes.
The Bulldogs raced to a 23-18 lead in the first quarter against St. Andrew’s and built it to 41-32 by the half.
But St. Andrew’s outscored Burnet 19-10 in the third quarter to tie the contest at 51-51 and then pulled away in the fourth period, outscoring the Bulldogs 19-12.
Burnet was 12 of 15 from the foul line; St. Andrew’s was 15 of 27.
