LEANDER — The Marble Falls High School girls basketball team lost 42-28 to Leander Rouse on Jan. 3.
The game was close for three periods. The Lady Mustangs trailed 5-2 after the first quarter, 11-9 at the half and 22-17 going into the final quarter.
With about six minutes left and leading 25-21, the Lady Raiders finally pulled away with a 15-0 run.
“We had a couple of bad defensive possessions,” Marble Falls head coach Chris Jost said. “They looked like the district leader they are.”
Rouse hit four 3-pointers during the final period.
The Lady Raiders opened the second half with a 7-0 run, but the Lady Mustangs wouldn’t stay down for long thanks to scoring from the foul line and finishing plays.
Two games remain in the first round of District 25-4A play, and Marble Falls is still looking for its first victory. The Lady Mustangs welcome Leander Vandegrift on Jan. 7 and end the week with a trip to Cedar Park Vista Ridge on Jan. 10.
“We’re at a point where we need a win,” Jost said.
