OBITUARY: Esther Layfield, 92, of Kingsland dies Dec. 28, 2013

Esther Layfield, 92, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away Dec. 28, 2013. She was born to William and Jane (Foster) Tatters on Aug. 16, 1921, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Mrs. Layfield was a director of Mid-State Bank in California, where she was an escrow officer for many years. She was an avid bridge player and played often at the Kingsland Senior Center.  Esther was a past president of the Altrusa Club in California. She was married to her husband, Earl Layfield, for more than 60 years. They married in September 1953.

Mrs. Layfield is survived by her husband, Earl; son-in-law, Charles Archer of Kingsland; brother, Richard Tatters and wife Helen of Ontario; nephews Ted Lockwood and wife Michele of Purcellville, Va., and Bruce Tatters and wife Michelle and Doug Tatters, all of Ontario; nieces Marlene Gilmour of Ontario, Priscilla Markgraf and husband Ken of Sunrise Beach, Patsy Condon of Santa Maria, Calif., Gail Frederickson and husband Kurt of Los Altos, Calif., and Cindy Bates and husband David, Beverly Lockwood and Betty Dow, all of Ontario; and foster daughters, Karren Vasquez and Patricia Burrell, both of California.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Archer; sisters, Ruth Lee and Jane Hafen; nephew David Lockwood; and niece Jane Andrews

Visitation is 8:30-10 a.m. with a funeral service at 10 a.m. Jan. 3 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. The Rev. Dick West will officiate. Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet.
