Hunters take down prize deers in Burnet County Big Buck Contest

BURNET — Local deer hunters had a great opening day of the white-tailed deer season Nov. 2 in the Hill Country.
Excellent weather and abundant deer for harvest were evident at the Burnet County Big Buck contest hosted by Burnet residents Robert and Kathy Griffith of Griffith Taxidermy.
Winners in the youth division (17 years and younger) were Cash Gililland, first place; Jack Johns, second place; and Weston McDaniel, third place.[tabs style=”default”] [tab title=”FIRST PLACE”]

Adult winners were Terry Abercrombie, first place with a 134-pound, 11-point buck that won him a free-shoulder mount of the deer from Griffith Taxidermy; and Joel Henry, second place with a 116-pound, 16-point buck that won him a European mount of the deer.
The contest was officiated by Wade Hibler, the Texas A&M AgriLIFE Extension Agent for Burnet County, and members of the Burnet County 4-H clubs.
