MARBLE FALLS — No holes to dig out of this time.

The Faith Academy football team scored all the points it needed in the first half in beating Austin Eastside Memorial 28-7 on Sept. 13.

The Flames (3-0) earned their 13th consecutive regular-season victory.

“It was a win,” Faith head coach Russ Roberts said. “(Eastside Memorial was) not quite as good as they were last year. They had some injuries, which made things more difficult.”

Faith won the game behind the solid running of sophomore running back Jacob Metcalf, who had 10 carries for 218 yards and two touchdowns, one from 21 yards and the other from 28 yards. Senior quarterback Austin Ellis ran in a touchdown from one yard out, while sophomore Asa Ortiz ran in the final score rom 29 yards.

Since the Flames were winning by four touchdowns, coaches agreed to go with a running clock in the second half. Roberts said that helped Eastside Memorial but didn’t allow all of his player to get playing time.

“I was glad to help (Eastside),” he said. “But I truly regret that. I don’t know that I’ll do it again.”

The Flames had 30 athletes ready to play, while Eastside suited up 24.

“From that standpoint, it might have been a good thing,” Roberts said.

The Flames host St. Mary’s Hall of San Antonio on Sept. 20 at Pony Stadium on the Marble Falls Middle School campus, 1511 Pony Circle Drive. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
