By summer time, most people already have called a travel agent and scheduled their trip. For those who haven’t, it’s not too late. A travel agent, such as Susie Keiser, owner and founder of Susie’s Travel Time, can book deals at the same price as many trips found on online travel websites touting huge price reductions.

“In reality, (an online agent’s) price is exactly the same price that we can offer to the client,” Keiser says.

She adds that clients like to do research on their own and then come to the travel agency to double-check their plans. Travel agents also help put together all of the components for a total vacation experience.

Why a travel agent makes sense

In the 1990s, the industry underwent a change brought on when airlines discontinued paying commissions to travel agents for ticket sales. When those commissions ended, agencies had to institute service fees to stay in business. This, too, has changed. With the exception of airline tickets, suppliers now pay a travel agent for virtually every service sold to a customer.

Keiser has been in the travel agent business in Marble Falls for more than 30 years. She offers large and small luxury ocean cruises, boutique river cruises, all-inclusive tours and quick weekend getaways. Susie’s Travel Time also provides travel conveniences, such as airline tickets, hotel and resort reservations, travel insurance, passport photos and family reunion and business conference coordination.

Grand tours are a specialty at Susie’s Travel Time. The agency coordinated a large tour for Century 21 Realty with more than 300 travelers to Maui, Hawaii. Another large tour involved the Bluebonnet Club at Arrowhead Bank with more than 80 guests on a two-week cruise to Australia and New Zealand.

“(The travel agency industry) is a fun, exciting business since, typically, our clients are excited about going somewhere and because we are helping them fulfill a dream,” Keiser says.
