FROM STAFF REPORTS

LLANO — Officials described retired Llano Police Chief James Schilling as a committed presence in public safety  for more than two decades within the community.

“He has 21 years of experience,” Llano City Manager Brenton Lewis said. “It will be hard to replace his knowledge and service to the community.”

Schilling’s last day of the eight-office Llano Police Department was Aug. 7, Lewis said. Lt. Kevin Ratliff is scheduled to become acting chief Aug. 12.

Lewis said he expects the acting chief to be in place for about two months.

“We’ll be appointing an interim chief. We’ll take external and internal applications,” he said. “We may bring in area police chiefs to help with the interview process.”

Schilling joined Llano Police Department in 1992.
