OBITUARY: Sammye Gray, 81, of Cherokee dies May 11, 2013
Sammye Gray of Cherokee, Texas, passed away May 11, 2013, at the age of 81. She was born to Mary (Brantley) and Sam Williams on Aug. 21, 1931, in Brady, Texas.
She enjoyed reading, hunting arrowheads and visiting with friends.
Sammye is survived by her daughter, Rebekah McCarty and husband Bart of Cherokee; sons Martin and wife Shirley of Cherokee and Mark of Gonzales, La.; daughter-in-law Shannon Gray of Alpine; five grandchildren, Laura, Rachel, Joshua, Heather and Symantha; four great-grandchildren, Josh, Allison, Brianna and Aurora; and two first cousins Helen Schafer of San Angelo and Dot Long of Kerrville.
She was preceded in death by her son Lester “Scotty” Gray and her parents.
A celebration of Sammye’s life is 10:30 a.m. May 18 at First Baptist Church of Cherokee with the Rev. Rye Taylor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to M.D. Anderson Hospital, First Baptist Church of Cherokee or Scott & White Hospice.
