BURNET — City Council members are set to determine what perks, if any, to grant themselves at Delaware Springs Municipal Golf Course during a regular council meeting April 9.
An amendment to the city’s ordinance that had provided free green fees to council members has come under fire from the community in recent weeks.
The upcoming meeting’s agenda states Mayor Gary Wideman has directed to revise the ordinance to eliminate all lifetime memberships and only provide a 20 percent discount on services during a council member’s term of office.
Since 2008, sitting council members’ green fees have been waived at the golf course. Before that, free lifetime memberships were given to council members and were grandfathered in after the ordinance changed in 2008.
The issue came up in March to reexamine whether to grandfather previous council members into the benefits.
The council meets 6:30 p.m. April 9 at the Burnet Municipal Airport Council Chambers, 2402 U.S. 281 South.
