KERRVILLE — Though the Marble Falls High School softball team won the Kerrville Tournament for the second consecutive year, it just didn’t feel the same, according to head coach Tino Salazar.

“I think it was more convincing,” he said. “We hit the ball well.”

The Lady Mustangs won all six of their games by scoring a total of 77 runs while giving up only 7. They beat Sharyland in the championship 15-0 in a contest that ended after four innings, Bandera a second time 7-0 and Kerrville Tivy 12-2.

Salazar said as a team, the Lady Mustangs are hitting better than .450.

“That’s huge,” he said.

The coach also gave the players credit for winning two back-to-back contests and playing in the championship after a one-game break.

“I think in my eyes, that was most impressive,” he said. “The girls were tired, they were exhausted. To play the way they played in the championship game was good to see.”

ALL-TOURNAMENT PLAYERS: Makenzie Carpenter, Tyler Oppenheim, Amanda Thomas.

AGAINST SHARYLAND: Winning pitcher – Makenzie Carpenter (9-0) 6 strikeouts. Marble Falls scored 15 runs off 16 hits, and Sharyland committed 4 errors. The Lady Mustangs scored 7 runs in the fourth inning.

AGAINST BANDERA:  Winning pitcher – Carpenter 7 strikeouts in seven innings. Marble Falls scored 7 runs off eight hits.

AGAINST TIVY: Winning pitcher – Amanda Thomas (2-1) 10 strikeouts. Marble Falls scored 7 runs in the seventh inning. The Lady Mustangs scored 12 runs on 15 hits.

QUOTABLE: “I think it’s big. I think the girls felt like they should have won it,” head coach Tino Salazar said.
