BURNET — The Burnet Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team completed the past two years with an overall record of 23-4 and a district mark of 19-1. Three of the losses were to Lake Travis, while the other was to Liberty Hill.
“This group has really worked hard, and I feel like they have really matured into young men who will go into high school and will be successful,” Burnt coach Glen Hafley said. He added a special thank-you to Terry Cavender, mother of Kyle Cavender, who has coached the team during the summer.

QUOTABLE: “We had many opportunities to score early in the game due to our smothering defense and great ball movement, but, for some reason, the ball just would not go in the basket. The boys really turned it on in the fourth,” Hafley said.
RECORDS: Burnet 8th A is 11-2 overall and 9-1 in district for a co-championship.

QUOTABLE: “The girls played their best game of the year on the defensive side of the ball. The Lady Mustangs frustrated the Cavaliers all night and never let them get comfortable in their offense. To play such an explosive team and for the girls to compete to the end and never give up shows how much they have improved over the last few months,” Marble Falls coach Craig Orton said.

QUOTABLE: “The girls started quickly and had the lead until the last two minutes. Turnovers and missed free throws proved to be the downfall. We missed 15 free throws, and, when Gatesville started fouling late in the game, that really hurt us,” Burnet coach Stuart Beckwith said.
