Though it is the smallest lake in the upper Highland Lakes chain, Lake Marble Falls packs a lot of fun into its 611 acres. The biggest selling point of the little lake is that while water levels fluctuate on the two largest lakes, Buchanan and Travis, Lake Marble Falls remains mostly steady at 737 feet above sea level.

Lake Marble Falls Lakeside ParkAn though it may not be as large as it’s upper and lower companions — Lake LBJ to the north and Travis to the south — it is perfect for personal watercraft and fishing.

Fishermen angle for the crappie, bluegill and bass that haunt the western part of the lake during the spring months. Year-round fishermen focus on catfish and sunfish.

A quarter mile section of the almost 6 miles of lake become the center of attention in the Highland Lakes during the second weekend of August when the LakeFest drag boat races hit town. This year marks the 22nd annual LakeFest, which is set for August 9-11 on the shores of Lakeside Park. You’ll find more information about LakeFest on its website.

When the boat races are not in town, Lakeside Park is the perfect place to enjoy Lake Marble Falls. The park includes a swimming pool, pavilion, covered picnic tables, barbecue pits, tennis court, basketball court and restroom facilities. Most important, however, is the boat ramp! Launch your craft and enjoy the waters of Lake Marble Falls year-around.

Another great park in town is Johnson Park at 230 S. Avenue J. Johnson Park is shaded by pecan trees along the banks of Backbone Creek and Whitman Branch as they flow into the lake. You’ll find another boat ramp there along with open air pavilions, am amphitheater, plays capes, softball field and beach volleyball court, horseshoe pits and more.
