Faith girls finish district undefeated for seventh straight season
MARBLE FALLS — Believe it or not, the Faith Academy of Marble Falls girls basketball team struggled against Waco Texas Christian on Feb. 7.
The Lady Flames were losing 4-0 and then 6-2 in the first quarter. That’s when head coach Jerry English called a timeout.
“It was probably the tone that was not very pleasant,” he said. “I didn’t think we did come out ready to play.”
But after that, the Lady Flames went on a 21-0 to end the first en route to a 67-25 victory, their 77th consecutive district win. The victory also capped their seventh straight undefeated district season.
The 77 wins ties English’s longest district winning streak of his career that he started when he coached at Sweeny several decades ago.
“I didn’t think I would ever see it in my lifetime because there’s a lot of things that can happen,” he said. “I think we make it look so easy that everybody thinks it’s easy. But it’s not easy. So I think that part of it is one of the things that’s really made us proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
