MARBLE FALLS — It wasn’t by much, but Waco Texas Christian Academy outscored the Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team at the end of the second, third and fourth quarters — enough to escape with a 50-46 win Feb. 7.

At the end of each period, the Pacers dropped in one more bucket than the Flames. It also didn’t help that Faith missed four layups in the second half.

“I’ve been telling them all year it was going to come back and haunt us, and it got us,” Flames head coach Randy Denton said.

But just when it looked like the Pacers had seized complete control of the contest, Faith freshman Jacob Metcalf took over. With the Flames trailing 36-44, Metcalf scored six points to trim the deficit to 48-46 with 29 seconds left in the game.

“I call him ‘Ice Water’,” Denton said. “He has no fear.”

The Pacers had two offensive possessions and six offensive rebounds in the final minute. That forced the Flames to foul.

The loss means Faith drops to third place in District 4-2A of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, but the still qualified for the playoffs.
