LIBERTY HILL — A fourth-quarter surge propelled Liberty Hill to a 43-38 win against the Burnet High School girls basketball team Jan. 29.

The Lady Dawgs led 29-28 headed into the final period, but the Lady Panthers outscored Burnet 15-9 for the win.

“We didn’t take care of the ball well enough to ever get anything consistent going on offense,” Burnet head coach Mike Cavender said. “Our high-energy defense kept us in the game and gave us a chance at the end, but missed opportunities left us on the wrong end of the score.”

The Lady Panthers took a 10-4 lead in the first quarter, but Burnet answered in the second, though the Lady Dawgs trailed 18-16 at the half.

Liberty Hill was 15-of-22 from the foul line, while Burnet was 10-of-17.

The evening wasn’t all that bad. Burnet clinched a playoff spot for the fifth consecutive season.

“Very solid accomplishment at this point for our young team this season,” Cavender said.
