LEANDER — The Marble Falls High School girls’ basketball team’s 52-47 loss to Leander Rouse on Jan. 29 came down to two things, according to head coach Chris Jost.

The Lady Raiders outrebounded the Lady Mustangs 19-14 and made four more field goals.

“We gave up just enough to get beat,” Jost said. “Maybe one a quarter. And we lost by five.”

Marble Falls trailed 11-8 after the first quarter but took a slight lead in the second. The Lady Mustangs’ leads, though, weren’t by more than two or three points. By contrast, the Lady Raiders led by as much as seven with 3 minutes 34 seconds remaining in the game.

Marble Falls junior guard Blanca Fonseca scored 20 points, a new career high.

“Blanca attacked the basket,” Jost said. “I think she had a feeling she could do that.”
