Leander Rouse goes long range to beat Mustangs
MARBLE FALLS — When Leander Rouse scored its first nine points off 3-pointers, it was a sign of what kind of night the Marble Falls High School boys basketball team was going to have Jan. 29.
By the end of the game, the Raiders beat the Mustangs 64-45.
Rouse’s final long-range bomb in the first quarter started an 11-0 run, and the Raiders never trailed again. Rouse scored six points off steals from its full-court defense.
Mustangs head coach Neil Laminack credited the Raiders for taking advantage of their opportunities, both from the perimeter and inside the lane. Roused finished the game by scoring seven 3-pointers.
Laminack also said the Mustangs didn’t value their possessions as much he would have liked.
During halftime, the coach said he told the players not to feel rushed. Junior forward Frederik Filsoof scored seven points in the third, helping the Mustangs outscore the Raiders 12-9 in the period.
“We had an ungodly number of turnovers,” Laminack said. “It’s one thing if they’re forced turnovers. It’s another thing if we’re just throwing it to them because we’re not being aggressive or we panic. And, so we just said ‘Relax, make a simple, easy play.'”
