OBITUARY: Leona Lohmeyer, 91, of Kingsland was businesswoman, nursing home administrator

Leona Ethel Lohmeyer, 91, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away Jan. 17, 2013. She was born to Samuel D. and Susie (Ely) Heimer of Weaverly, Kan., on June 9, 1921. She was the youngest of nine children.
Leona married Dale F. Lohmeyer on Sept. 23, 1940. She liked to do embroidery.
Leona was a successful businesswoman and an administrator for two nursing homes that she and her husband owned. She also would look after mental patients from a VA hospital who her husband would bring home from work. They built a dormitory to house these patients. Dale was the entrepreneur, and she was the motor behind it. She was a good organizer.
Leona is survived by daughter, Beverly and husband George Winfield of Kingsland; son, Wayne Lohmeyer and wife Sceptra of Houston; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; and her eight siblings.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Jan. 27 at First United Methodist Church in Leander.
