Lady Dawgs undefeated in first half of district play after beating Lampasas
BURNET — Only a sluggish first quarter for the Burnet High School girls basketball team kept Lampasas close to the Lady Dawgs on Jan. 18.
Burnet won 48-39 to end the first round of District 8-3A play undefeated.
“Sometimes, things just don’t work out like you had planned, and you have to overcome adversity and frustration to win,” Burnet head coach Mike Cavender said. “We have learned what it takes to win through adversity, and I felt like the kids did a great job of that.”
Burnet led 8-4 after the first period and took a 20-17 lead at the half before finally pulling away in the final quarter, dropping in 18 points.
The Lady Dawgs, who buried a handful of 3-pointers in the win against Liberty Hill on Jan. 11, didn’t make any of their 14 attempts this time.
