Lady Mustangs soccer squad opens Winter Classic with shutout win

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School girls soccer team got a 1-0 victory against Fredericksburg to start pool A play in its own Winter Classic on Jan. 11.
The goal was scored by senior forward Sorren Owens, who put the ball into the right corner after a crossing pass from sophomore Shelbi Wyatt.
Lady Mustangs coach Trey Young, who earned his first win as a head coach, said he was proud of the way his team competed, especially after a first half during which the Lady Billies controlled the ball.
“We played a reactive game instead of a proactive game,” he said about the first half.
Because the Lady Mustangs shut out Fredericksburg, they earned an extra point in the tournament standings.
“It’s how you want to start a tournament,” Young said.
TOP PLAYERS: Sorren Owens scored the goal assisted by Shelbi Wyatt.
BEST OF THE REST: Goalie Selena Roman, Katelyn Corley, Megan Morgan, Jennifer Fonseca
RECORD: Marble Falls is 1-0.
NEXT GAME: Marble Falls vs. Salado, 5 p.m. Jan. 11 at Mustang Stadium, 2101 Mustang Drive in Marble Falls
