Four Faith football players selected to all-star game
MARBLE FALLS — Four seniors of the 2012 Faith Academy football team have been selected to represent the school at the North-South All-Star game of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
They are running back and linebacker Brian Freeman, running backs and defensive backs Jake Diamond and Seth McAnally, and lineman Brendan Cockroft.
The game is 4 p.m. Dec. 15 at Houston St. Pius X High School, 811 West Donovan St. in Houston.
Head coach Russ Roberts nominated the four.
Freeman rushed 93 times for 1,058 yards and 14 touchdowns, while Diamond had 33 carries for 202 yards and 1 touchdown and McAnally had 35 rushes for 382 yards and 6 touchdowns.
The coach would have nominated a fifth, senior running back Jason Byrd, but he suffered a knee injury in the season-ending loss to Halletsville Sacred Heart on Nov. 23.
“It’s really very fitting they be picked for this honor,” the coach said. “The guys have been strong in two games, the six-man and 11-man games.”
His biggest concern is that the game is played during basketball season, a potential conflict for Freeman and Diamond.
“As of this morning (Dec. 10), they’re going to try their best to get there,” Roberts said.
Faith Academy announced the move to 11-man football December 2011 for the 2012 season. The Flames were 11-1 and won the Division 3 District 4 championship.
