MARBLE FALLS — All five starters of the Faith Academy boys basketball team were named to all-District 5-2A teams as voted on by district coaches.

Junior post Jason Byrd was named to the first team, while junior guard Brian Freeman, junior forward Lucas Wright and sophomore forward Reagan Vaughn were named to the second team. Senior post Casey Clendennen was honorable mention.

With the announcement from head coach John Berkman, the Flames made history a second time.

For the first time, all five starters were recognized on all-district teams to go with the Flames qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in school history.

"You’re moving in the right direction," Berkman said. "It’s not just recognition from our end but other coaches and other kids."

Byrd averaged 8.1 points, 1.2 blocks and 4.7 rebounds a game.

"He did a lot of things to change the game," Berkman said, "whether it was from him rebounding, changing quickly on defense as well as explosiveness around the goal."

Wright and Vaughn were the team leaders in points scored per game with 8.8 and 9.2 averages, while Freeman was considered the squad’s top defensive stopper with 2.6 steals and 1.4 assists per contest.

"Reagan and Lucas both can shoot from the outside, and they both can go to the goal," Berkman said. "All three of those guys worked extremely hard."

Clendennen got better as the game went on, especially when the Flames needed a key basket, steal or rebound.

"Casey was very active on defense," Berkman said. "He was always hustling."
