Lady Flames shine against Temple Holy Trinity
MARBLE FALLS — The Faith Academy girls basketball team extended their district winning streak to 68 straight victories Feb. 7, demolishing Temple Holy Trinity 64-26.
The Lady Flames (28-4,11-0) allowed no more than nine points in any quarter.
"We played well early," head coach Jerry English said. "I thought we made some good decisions. I thought our defense was quite good."
Meanwhile, the Celtics had no answer for senior post Brooke Field. She controlled the lane on both sides of the court by limiting Holy Trinity’s offensive opportunities and driving to the hoop on the other end.
She camped out in the lane and scored on two-, six- and eight-footers. She scored 18 of her game-high 22 points in the first half, helping Faith to a 37-10 advantage.
The Lady Flames continued to apply defensive pressure and took advantage of a lack of defensive rebounding, errant passes and little ball movement.
Faith scored 22 fastbreak points.
"I think our defense has really been coming along," English said. "That’s what we’re going to need, that consistency. We’re about where we want to be, we just have to keep working."
Junior guard Bailey Brinkley added 12 points.
Faith will end the regular season at Cedar Park Summit 6:30 p.m. Feb. 9.
