TAYLOR — The Taylor High School girls basketball team only scored two points in the opening quarter against the Burnet High School girls basketball team Jan. 17.

And it didn’t get any better as the Lady Dawgs (14-11, 3-1) stomped the Lady Ducks 81-13.

Taylor didn’t score more than four points in any period.

"There was lots of playing time to be had by all," Lady Dawgs head coach Mike Cavender said. "We rotated three groups of five throughout the contest with the starters getting eight minutes, group two getting 12 minutes, and group three getting 12 minutes."

That allowed Cavender to work on depth and not just suit up players for possible playing time, he said.

The Lady Dawgs also worked on different schemes during the contest on both sides of the court, he added.

In addition, Burnet was rarely challenged as the Lady Dawgs shot a scorching 56.9 percent from the field and 14 of the 15 players scored.

Meanwhile the Lady Ducks shot 10 percent from the field.

Burnet senior Hillary Foster led with 15 points, while senior guard Leah Cotton added 12 and senior Casey Jo Stevens dropped in 12 points.

Junior post Bryanika Grady scored seven points, freshman guard Shelby Wilson contributed six and freshman guard Riley Scott and senior Taryn Rosow each added five.

Cotton recorded eight steals and three assists, and senior Callie Haley posted five assists and two points. Freshman post Sarah Poe grabbed nine rebounds and scored two points.

Burnet hosts Salado 6:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at The Doghouse, 1000 The Green Mile.
