Lady Mustangs soccer squad ends Winter Classic in shootout

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School girls soccer team ended its own Winter Classic on Jan. 14 with a thrilling shootout.
The Lady Mustangs (0-3-1) lost 2-1 in the shootout to Canyon Lake as time ran out in a 2-2 tie. The loss was on the heels of a 1-0 defeat to Fredericksburg.
The teams decided to take the shootout attempts from the 35-yard line, which is the spot squads will take shots in the playoffs. It was the first time the Lady Mustangs attempted a shot from that distance.
Though they lost in the shootout, Lady Mustangs head coach Paulette Moczygemba said her team’s level of play was better.
Junior Sorren Owens recorded Marble Falls’ first goal with an assist from junior Alexis Smith.
