Lady Flames 85, Bulverde Bracken 29

BULVERDE — The Faith Academy girls basketball team extended their district winning streak to 58 games thanks to crushing Bulverde Bracken 85-29.

The Lady Flames (19-4, 2-0) led 58-14 at the half Jan. 6. Senior post Brooke Field scored 22 points, while junior guard Bailey Brinkley led with 23. Both played only 18 minutes of the contest.

“We really just played awfully good defense,” head coach Jerry English said.

He said Field and senior forward Beth Ann Berkman gave their best defensive effort of the season.

The Lady Flames began the third period with several layups thanks to their fastbreaks. They scored 19 points and allowed only two.

“We probably scored the first eight points of the second half on stealing the ball,” English said.

Faith has three more consecutive district road games beginning with Tuesday’s contest at Austin Waldorf, 8700 S. View Road in Austin, at 6:30 p.m. They will travel to face Kerrville Our Lady of the Hills Jan. 13.

“We have an opportunity with three more road games in a row,” English said. “We really need to get those two games next week. It’s a big week. We’re looking forward to it.”
