BURNET — Burnet Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees President Andy Feild said he never expected to have to find a new superintendent and a new athletic director and head football coach at the same time.

"We’re just going to do it a step at a time," he said.

Superintendent Jeff Hanks resigned to accept the position of superintendent in the Weatherford school district, while coach and athletic director Doyle Walker announced he will retire at the end of this semester.

So, that left the question: Which position will be filled first?

"We joked about that," Feild said. "The superintendent is the leader of the district. We’ll go with the superintendent first."

The president said the board has narrowed its search for an interim superintendent to a lone finalist. And, he believes the board will vote on that individual at the Nov. 21 meeting. He hopes a permanent superintendent will be hired by the spring.
