Mustangs begin district play against Vista Ridge
MARBLE FALLS — For years, the Marble Falls High School football team had Cedar Park Vista Ridge’s number.
The Mustangs (3-1) ended a 22-game losing streak against the Rangers (1-3) in head coach Cord Woerner’s first year at the helm in 2004.
That started a four-game winning streak against Vista Ridge that ended in 2010 when the Rangers won 21-20 after taking a 14-0 halftime lead.
Marble Falls thought it had the game won when former standout fullback Austin Sparks hit paydirt with 2 minutes left. But Rangers quarterback Blake Estes scored a 6-yard touchdown with 50 seconds remaining.
The contest ended on a missed 31-yard field goal by Marble Falls.
Of course, there were other streaks at play last September. The Mustangs’ losing streak extended to three straight, while the Rangers’ winning streak was extended to five straight wins, which was a school record at the time.
