Mustangs look to avenge 2010 losses to Boerne Champion

MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School football team will be fighting for more than to keep its perfect record intact.

The Mustangs (3-0) have long memories and went 0-2 against Boerne Champion last season, including a 42-28 loss in the 2010 area round of the playoffs that ended Marble Falls’ season. Champion won 31-7 during the regular season.

Still, head coach Cord Woerner said the only game on the minds of players and coaches is this one, which will be played at Mustang Stadium, 2101 Mustang Drive, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16.

Most importantly, Woerner said the Mustangs will be challenged in many ways from a Chargers (1-2) squad known for its strength and quickness.

“They do a good job,” he said. “They’ve played some really tough opponents, but I think our kids are going to come out and get after it.”

Chargers senior running back John Rogers returns after posting 218 rushes for 1,544 yards and 11 touchdowns and 31 receptions for 528 yards and six touchdowns last season.
