MARBLE FALLS — The Hill Country Colts will hold tryouts at Johnson Park at 9 a.m. Sept. 24.

Cost for the trials for the Cross Roads Amateur Football League team is $40.

Athletes will participate in the 40-yard dash, shuttle, standing-leap jump and position-specific drills at the park, 230 S. Ave. J.

Ideally, head coach Dennis Wilke said he’d like to have a 60-man roster.

“We have a few of our good players coming back,” he said, “and all of our offensive line.”

Former Burnet High School standout running back Jathan Craig is expected to return. But Wilke said the team (1-10 in 2010) is searching for a quarterback.

“If anybody thinks they can play quarterback, we need one,” he said.

Cost to play on the team is an additional $175 for rookies and $75 for veterans.

Wilke will conduct three-and-a-half weeks of training camp in November.

The Colts decided to become a member of the C.R.A.F. after spending their first season in the Texas United Football League.

“It’s a much more organized league,” Wilke said of C.R.A.F.

The league has four divisions in which teams play 10 regular-season games and one preseason contest. Each division winner and two wildcard teams make up the playoffs.

The preseason game will be in January with the regular season starting in February.

Home games will continue to be played at Pony Stadium, 1511 Pony Circle Drive, on the Marble Falls Middle School campus.
