FREDERICKSBURG — It was the Demone Belmarez show in Fredericksburg as the senior running back gashed the Billies early and often in a 24-19 Burnet High School win Friday night.

Belmarez rushed for 136 yards on 26 carries and caught two passes for 64 yards to pace the Dawgs.

Despite a late rush from Fredericksburg High School, which saw the Bulldogs fumble at the Billie 1-yard line with a minute left in the game, Burnet held on with two late sacks to seal the win.

The Dawgs looked to capitalize early as Belmarez raced to a 74-yard touchdown on the third play of the game, only to have it called back on an illegal block in the back penalty.

But later in the first quarter, the Bulldogs’ Zach Madonado hauled in a Weston Cozby pass for a 31-yard score to give Burnet an early 7-0 lead.

The Dawgs kept rolling early in the second quarter as Belmarez capped off a long Burnet drive with a 6-yard touchdown run up the gut, pushing the lead to 14-0.
