Flames football team uses summer wisely
MARBLE FALLS — Faith Academy football players are making the most of time left before reporting for two-a-days Aug. 1.
Unlike the University Interscholastic League, the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools allow coaches and players to train during the summer, so head coach Russ Roberts has supervised weightlifting workouts on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
He gave athletes a running program they can do the other three days on their own.
“That’s much more important than the weights,” Roberts said. “It’s six-man football. It’s much more wide open. We’ll score two or three times as much. There’s less space and less people to cover it.”
Starting next week, Roberts also will supervise the running; then comes the dead period July 25-29.
