MARBLE FALLS — While the objective of sports often is to win, for children the most important part is learning the fundamentals and participating.

At least that’s the lessons stressed by Marble Falls First Baptist Church’s Upward Flag Football program.

“We’re calling it a positive sports experience and uplifting environment,” said Jana Cummings, the church’s minister to children. “We want to focus on the fundamentals and give the kids a good experience.”

Registration for the 2011 season is under way. Early registration — which lasts until July 28 — is $65 per child for flag football. It goes up to $80 after that date.

For the cheerleader program, early registration through July 28 is $70, but jumps to $85 after that.

The Upward league is open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade.
