Lois Irene ‘Lokie’ Kohl
Lois Irene "Lokie" Kohl, 99, of Burnet died Feb. 23, 2011. She was born March 30, 1911, in Cherokee, Iowa, to William Pech and Caroline Boland.
She lived in several Iowa towns until her husband joined the Navy during World War II. She and her young son lived in Kansas City, Mo., with her father-in-law during the war. After hostilities ended, the family moved to Decorah, Iowa, where she became an avid trout fisherman. Summer fishing trips to Wisconsin and Minnesota were typical vacations.
The family next moved to Ames, Iowa, and, when her husband retired, they moved to a house on Inks Lake. After her husband died, she moved to her final home in Burnet.
She remained independent until giving up her bright red car at age 92.
Despite several falls and broken bones, she always popped back up.
She was able to remain in her home for her last years with the aid of outstanding caregivers and finally with the help of Seton Hospice.
Survivors include son Denis Kohl and wife Deena; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister Delores "Dede" Maxon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband L.A. "Al" Kohl; two brothers; and three sisters. A memorial service is 11 a.m. March 12 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222.
