Winona Garvis Rucktashel Morris, 90, of Corpus Christi died Feb. 23, 2011. She was born in Nocona in 1920.

She and her family lived near Duncan, Okla., until 1929, when they moved to Littlefield to farm new land, surviving the terrible droughts and sandstorms of the 1930s.

She married A.Z. Morris in 1941 in El Paso, where he was stationed at Fort Bliss. After his military service, they farmed in Fieldton and Muleshoe, then moved to Corpus Christi in 1954. The couple also lived in Uvalde, Lubbock and LaGrange before moving to Inks Lake when he became ill.

After her husband’s death, she lived in many places over the years, including Inks Lake, Lake Buchanan, Ruidoso, N.M., and Rogers, Ark., before moving back to Corpus Christi.

Survivors include children Linda Morris Leach and Gary Morris, both of Corpus Christi, and Sandra Morris Polansky and Joe Dale Morris, both of Houston; grandchildren Mark Shouse, Jeff Shouse, Allison Leach, Jason Morris, Bret Morris, Rhonda Bemus, Robyn Polansky and Katherine Morris; great-grandchildren Nichole Borjas, Megan, Mareena and Garrett Shouse, Michael, Evan and Ethan Paulding, Kate, Jackie, Cameron and Maddox Morris, Lisa and Robert Bemus Jr., and Nathan Pinson; and great-great-grandchildren Ashlyn Borjas and Ethan Pinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978; mother in 1936; father in 1968; and brother J.D. Rucktashel in 2009.

A graveside service was 1 p.m. Feb. 28 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, Park Road 4 in Burnet. She was buried next to her husband.
