Mabel Wills, 91, died Feb. 27, 2011. She was born Oct. 14, 1919, in Council Creek to Lee and Lucy Hinds.

She was a lifelong resident of Burnet and was well known for her hard work at various cafes and restaurants in town. Her love for her family and the Lord were by far her best character traits.

After retiring, she spent many years being “Granny Mabel” to many children in town. She loved being the mother of nine children and being a “mother” to many other family members. She was well known for her cooking and fed many people over the years.

Survivors include children Darlene Patterson of Lampasas, Vivian Ussery of Llano, Shirley Tatum of Belton, LaVerne Ballard and husband Bill of Kingsland, Susie Martin and husband Dennis of Marble Falls, Betty Chambers and husband Jimmy of Buchanan Dam and Jimmy McGuire and wife Deanna of Buchanan Dam; stepchildren Evelyn McMurrey and husband Nelson of San Antonio, Mona Adams and husband Ken of Kingsland, Merlene Houy and husband Dayton of Marble Falls, Denton Wills Sr. of Burnet, Kenneth Wills and wife Dee of Burnet; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother Bill Hinds of Liberty Hill; and many other family members.

She was preceded in death by husbands James McGuire and Herschel Wills; children James McGuire and Morris McGuire; stepchild Tony Wills; parents; and siblings.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. March 1 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (830) 756-2222.

A service is 11 a.m. March 2 at the funeral home with the Rev. James East officiating. Interment will follow at Burnet City Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Dennis Martin, Jimmy Chambers, Wendell Everett, Bill Ballard, Jason Martin, James Tatum and Robert Tatum.
