Two Burnet Waterdogs recognized on all-state level
BURNET — The Burnet High School swimming team wrapped up its season at the Region VII 4A & Under Championship Meet recently.
After a combined team score allowed the Waterdogs to finish ninth overall, two Burnet swimmers were named to the all-state team thanks to times and points during the season.
Named to the all-state swimming team was junior Joe Robertson thanks to his performance in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. He came in sixth in each event at the regional meet.
He was first in the freestyle and second in the backstroke at the district meet.
“Joe has worked hard this year and made many personal bests,” head coach Nancy Moore said. “I am very proud of his performances this season.”
Savanna Meadows, a freshman diver, was an all-state honorable mention thanks to finishing third overall in the girls diving at the district meet and fourth overall at the regional meet.
“She had a great year,” Moore said. “Savanna works very hard to represent BHS. I am looking forward to an even better season from her next year.”
The Burnet boys team pushed hard and finished ninth overall at the regional meet, Moore said, adding the Burnet girls team performed very well to finish 12th at the regional meet.
The boys 200-medley relay, consisting of Robertson, Jon Paul Harris, Andrew Hardison, and Phillip Green, finished seventh overall.
The boys 200-meter freestyle relay consisting of Green, Travis Justus, Zane McCartney and Hardison, finished 16th overall.
The boys 400-meter freestyle relay, consisting of Robertson, Green, Hardison and Harris, finished seventh overall.
Harris placed 11th overall in the boys 100-meter breaststroke.
The girls 200-meter medley relay, consisting of Ashlea Beckner, Anna Hodges, Grace Hodges and Tiffany Revay, finished sixth.
“There were fantastic swims from Grace Hodges,” Moore said.
Grace Hodges finished fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Beckner placed eighth in the 50-meter freestyle and 14th in the 100-meter backstroke.
Revay finished eighth in the 100-meter butterfly.
Savanna Meadows placed fourth in the one-meter diving competition.
“The Waterdogs represented Burnet High School with honor and pride,” the coach said. “They have had another great year in the water.”
