Where there’s smoke

Marble Falls Fire Marshal Johnny Caraway (left) and Marble Falls Fire Rescue captains Scott Collard and Coy Guenter discuss the cause of a blaze at Accents Boutique in the 200 block of Avenue H Saturday. The fire caused minimal damage in the store.

MARBLE FALLS — A box of candles has been blamed for a fire that caused minor damage at a boutique Saturday morning.

More than a dozen firefighters from Marble Falls, Granite Shoals and Horseshoe Bay responded to the fire at Accents Boutique after officers from the Police Department reported seeing smoke coming from the rear of the building, 212 Ave. H, around 8:40 a.m.

Fire Capt. Scott Collard said crews aggressively attacked the blaze, limiting it to a small corner of the building before it could spread.

Fire Marshal Johnny Caraway said the fire is accidental in nature.

“The fire was quickly confined to a display area and a small amount of store merchandise,” Collard said.

Store owner Lynette Collier said the blaze apparently started in a box of candles that had been recently delivered, adding the minor damage led her to close the store temporarily until repairs could be completed.

“Hopefully we’ll have it open later this week,” she said. “I’m talking to the insurance company Wednesday.”

Collier said most of the damage was smoke-related. Collard said there was no additional damage reported throughout the rest of the structure, which is shared by two other businesses.

There were no injuries reported.
