Harmony School of Creative Arts presents ‘Fantasy Nutcracker’
MARBLE FALLS — The seventh annual “Fantasy Nutcracker,” an original two-hour rendition of the popular ballet, will be performed live onstage 6 p.m. Dec. 13 and 2 p.m. Dec. 14 by the dance department at Harmony School of Creative Arts.
The performance is at the Marble Falls High School auditorium, 2101 Mustang Drive. Proceeds supplement Harmony’s scholarship fund.
The classic “Nutcracker” ballet is based on the book “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” written by E.T.A. Hoffman.
In 1891, composer Peter Tchaikovsky was commissioned to write the music for the ballet, which soon became a holiday favorite.
The “Fantasy Nutcracker,” adapted by Harmony’s dance department, is geared toward children and adults using the elaborate and sweeping score from Tchaikovsky’s original.
“While the story line remains the same, the choreography is adapted each year to highlight the skills of various dance classes and students,” said Harmony artistic director Alicia Sommer. “We work to include an element of surprise each year.”
Approximately 125 community members ages 4 to adult are part of the production.
“This annual event has become a favorite of all our participants, and it is clearly evident,” said Harmony Executive Director Barbara Bend. “Audience members sense the fun and enjoyment from each child and adult on stage. And the costumes are absolutely beautiful.”
This year’s production also includes a number by several award-winning gymnasts from GymAct.
Tickets are on sale at Harmony, 1503 Mormon Mill Road and H-E-B, 1502 RR 1431. Advance tickets are $6 for children ages 4-12 and $12 for adults. Tickets at the door are $7 for children and $15 for adults. Children age 3 and under are free.
