Interest in Marble Falls still strong despite the economy
EDC Special Projects Coordinator Olivia Cribbs told directors at their regular meeting she’s been fielding plenty of calls from businesspeople interested in setting up shop in Marble Falls.
“It’s not doom and gloom, like we’ve been thinking,” Cribbs said. “I don’t know about the residential side, but in commercial areas, they’re preparing for the future.”
Cribbs said much of the interest in Marble Falls has come from Realtors and property appraisers, though she’s spoken to a few franchise representatives about opening stores in town.
“I have met with a couple of gentlemen who are future prospects interested in setting up franchises here,” she said.
One of those prospects includes a new business at the site of the former Patton’s on Main restaurant downtown, Cribbs said.
“I’m also sending out packages to just about every business to see if we can strike some interest in Marble Falls,” she said.
Residents’ tightening pursestrings are widely blamed for a series of restaurant closures around Marble Falls, including Café 909, the Falls Bistro, Cecil & Co. , Lone Star Coffee and the Java Bean.
One new restaurant, Texas Nation, recently opened at the site of the former Cecil & Co., Cribbs added.
The EDC’s next meeting is set for noon Jan. 7 at City Hall, 800 Third St.
