Tribute to dogs inspires Uptown show
MARBLE FALLS — A singer giving a nod to man’s — or woman’s — best friend is the featured performer during a Sunday matinee at the Uptown Marble Theater.
Susan Gibson will appear at the theater, 218 Main St., for a 2 p.m. performance to herald the release of her new CD “New Dog, Old Tricks.”
The CD is Gibson’s nod to her late dog Jezable’s service in the music industry, and to the two road hounds that recently replaced her, Guilda and Nick, who not only “keep the crazies away,” according to Gibson, but lately have been “better about” not chewing up her stuff.
Gibson’s latest canine companions are rescue dogs, and a portion of the record’s proceeds will benefit a nonprofit that rescues pets.
“New Dog, Old Tricks” is also about Gibson’s affinity for words: all of the songs are ones Gibson plays at her shows.
Under the production helm of Walt Wilkins and Tim Lorsch, the new record features legendary drummer Paul Pearcy, Michael O’Connor (and Gabe Rhodes in a fiery double-lead guitar role and Marble Falls’ own John Greenburg on baritone guitar.
David Carroll joins them on bass, and Lorsch also appears on the violin, lowboy and mandolin.
All of it is recorded at the Zone, a top-rated studio tucked away in Dripping Springs.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Limited reserved table seating is available for $20 by calling the theater at (830) 693-9996.
Tickets are available online at www.uptownmarble.com and at the R-Bar & Grill, 904 Third St.
