The offensive output was significantly down, but the defensive intensity made up for the lack of Burnet scoring, coaches said.

Liberty Hill controlled the tip, but the Bullpups were able to keep them from scoring.

Burnet’s man-to-man defense bothered the Panthers,  coaches said.

Burnet led, 7-3, after the first period and 10-3 at the end of two.

The Bullpups scored six points in the first two minutes of the third quarter but could not sustain that effort.

They relied on their defense to set the tone, coaches said, and kept a 16-5 lead.

Weston Walker led the Bullpups with six points and three steals, while R.J. Vanwagenen added five points, two steals and two blocks. Zach Evans scored three points and had a steal and two blocks. Justin Brown had two points and three blocks, while Frederick Schmidt recorded three blocks and  Spencer Ray had a steal and a block. Thomas Rhames and Nick Foster had one and two steals, respectively.
