Bulldogs’ second half leads to win
“We experimented really for the first time in trying to change the tempo at different points during the game, and it worked out for us,” head coach Roy Kiser said. “Our bench played really well, and our defensive intensity brought us back from an early deficit.”
Burnet trailed, 25-15, after the opening period but then cut the Badger output in the next quarter nearly in half to narrow the deficit to 39-34 by halftime.
With defense and a steady offensive punch, the Bulldogs grabbed a 51-50 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The final stanza was a blowout. Burnet outscored Lampasas, 30-14, to secure the win.
“We did some things better against Lampasas, but they played a great game without their leading scorer,” Kiser said. “We had three guards in double figures and every guard scored at some point during the game. Everyone got in the game and contributed either defensively by causing turnovers or in the box score. It was a total team effort.”
The Bulldogs were led by Tyson Denton with 23 points and seven rebounds. Floor general Zakk Revelle connected for 16 points and hauled in one rebound and dished out one assist.
Junior post Ben Cardozo had 11 points and six rebounds, while teammate Stewart Berg finished with 10 points, two rebounds and five assists.
John Melvin, a 6-foot 3-inch junior forward, delivered five points and grabbed five rebounds, and David Sorrells recorded five points as well and pulled down one rebound.
Varsity veteran Tyler Scott was credited with four points and grabbed six boards.
Aaron Doucet and Chaston Hall provided two points each.
Hall also raked in two rebounds.
Also contributing were Garret Wilkes with one point and one board and Garrett Rowe with one rebound.
Burnet hosts its own Bulldog Classic Friday and Saturday and Lampasas visits Burnet for an 8 p.m. rematch Tuesday.
