MARBLE FALLS — Author Elizabeth Crook of Austin is the guest speaker today in the Friends of the Marble Falls Library series “Lunch with an Author.”

The Marble Falls Public Library is at 101 Main St. Lunch will beserved at 11:30 a.m., and the author will speak at noon.

Crooks’ books include “Raven’s Bride” (about Sam Houston’s disastrous first marriage) and “Promised Lands” (about the Texas War for Independence).

The Marble Falls Library Book Club chose to read Crook’s most recent book, “Night Journal,” a mystery involving archaeology in Texas and New Mexico.

A Texan by birth, Crook attended Baylor University for two years and graduated from Rice University in 1982. 

Her writing was encouraged by Jackie Onassis, who edited “Promised Lands.” 

Crook won the 2007 Spur Award and the Willa Cather Literary Award for historical fiction.
